Mandated Programs
Achievement Week
Originally designed to promote the study of Negro life and history; today used to recognize individuals who’ve made noteworthy contributions to improving quality of life for Black Americans (see also National High School Essay Contest).
Scholarship
Promotes academic excellence among undergraduate members; graduate chapters provide financial assistance to student members and non-members; funded partly via the Charles R. Drew Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Social Action Program
National committee coordinates voter registration, “get-out-the-vote” efforts, and support of the NAACP, National Urban League, and other programs.
Talent Hunt Program
Provides exposure, encouragement, and financial assistance to talented young people in the Performing Arts; winners may receive college scholarships.
Memorial Service
March 12th established as Memorial Day; chapters conduct services honoring members who have passed (“entered into Omega Chapter”).
Reclamation and Retention
Effort at international, district, and local levels to retain active brothers and return inactive brothers to full participatory status.
College Endowment Fund
Fraternity gives at least $50,000/year to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs); chapters are assessed donations based on chapter size.
Health Initiatives
Programs include the Charles Drew Blood Drive (typically June), AIDS/HIV Awareness, and the American Diabetes Association Partnership.
Voter Registration, Education and Mobilization
Coordinated activities at all levels promoting civic engagement through voting.
NAACP
Every district and chapter is required to maintain a Life Membership at Large in the NAACP; if not a life member, must maintain yearly membership to remain in Good Standing. All members strongly encouraged to join the NAACP.
STEM
Fraternity’s STEM initiatives designed to get students across the world excited about science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Fatherhood & Mentoring
Every level of the Fraternity, particularly at the chapter level, is asked to play an active role supporting this partnership by promoting the Fraternity’s Fatherhood Mentoring initiative.
